WHAT I'M GOOD AT

Data Science Leadership

I have the pleasure of leading a large analytics team at an advertising agency where data is at the center of everything we do. Growing the team and developing this diverse group is the best part of my job.

As a leader, I am especially effective at delivering great work despite barriers and bureaucracy.  My process is to hear the concerns of the clients and probe to encapsulate them in terms of a tractable problem.  Once the problem is defined, I communicate the vision to my team and collaborate to find creative solutions.  For larger projects, I then like to construct a prototype on which we can iterate or pivot.  As a result of clear expectations, ruthless prioritization, good communication, delegation, and hard work, my clients always delighted in the work we deliver.

DATA SCIENCE

My work spans the many disciplines that comprise the data science field.  My morning could be spent reviewing and implementing statistical techniques, while I might spend the afternoon troubleshooting code or deploying cloud computing resources.  I am ultimately responsible for the full data life-cycle including collection, cleaning and manipulation, processing and storage, predictive analytics, data mining and machine learning, and visualization and reporting.  I drive value for my clients by delivering accurate results on short timelines, by using new techniques to uncover actionable insights from tried and true data sources, and by sourcing new data. My creative colleagues don't always know what, precisely, my job entails, but they do know that I can help them calculate the percentage change in sales.

TECHNOLOGY

I've done several migrations - moving a SAS environment from on-prem to the cloud, and replacing antiquated technologies with the modern data stack (dbt + Snowflake/BigQuery).  My previous team and I built a high performance deep learning sandbox, which we named Odin, from parts.  I can tell you which of the following is not like the others: VPC, VPN, ETL, CRM, API.  My creative colleagues don't always know what, precisely, my job entails, but they do know that I might be a good alternative to the IT guy.

CREATIVITY

Tombras promises our clients data + creativity = business results, and my job is to deliver on that promise.  From driving efficiency with media mix models, to informing strategy with forecasts, our team will find creative uses for data that help our clients exceed their goals
